About This Training Module
This training module provides on-line training for personnel responsible for stormwater management. Under the Clean Water Act, the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permitting mechanism requires the implementation of controls designed to prevent harmful pollutants from being washed by stormwater runoff into local water bodies. This training module addresses the:
- History of the NPDES stormwater permit regulations,
- Sources of pollution,
- Problems caused by polluted stormwater runoff,
- Stormwater pollution prevention plan,
- Stormwater permit application,
- Best management practices for general industries, construction industry, and municipality.
Additionally, the training module provides links to additional information, including regulatory citations, detailed information on best management practices, as well as a glossary and list of acronyms.
Upon the completion of this training module, you will be able to:
- Understand the NPDES stormwater permit regulations
- Identify common sources of stormwater pollution
- Understand the basic elements of a stormwater management program
- Implement the stormwater management program
While common sources of stormwater pollution and BMPs are presented in this training module, the training is not intended to address all potential sources of pollution at your facility and to be used as the sole reference by the environmental personnel responsible for developing stormwater management programs. The site specific requirements applicable to stormwater management are included in state and Federal laws and regulations and in permits issued by authorized regulatory agencies.
