Lesson Two: NPDES Stormwater Permit Program |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
EPA’s Multi-Sector General Permit (MSGP) Operators of industrial facilities requiring an NPDES Stormwater Permit are eligible to obtain coverage under the MSGP if their activities fulfill the following criteria:
The MSGP provides facility-specific requirements for many types of industrial facilities within one overall permit. The permit outlines steps that facility operators must take prior to being eligible for permit coverage, including development and implementation of a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP). The MSGP-2000 published in the Federal Register on October 30, 2000 is a five-year permit and will expire on October 30, 2005. The EPA will reissue the MSGP prior to expiration of the existing permit and facilities will need to reapply for permit coverage under the reissued permit--consistent with the terms of the reissued permit. The EPA has allowed facilities 90 days to obtain coverage under the reissued permit. |
