Runoff Management

The SWPPP must describe existing stormwater controls found at the facility and any additional measures that can be implemented to improve the prevention and control of polluted stormwater. Appropriate stormwater runoff management may includes: (see Drain-system)

   
  • Flow diversion

    • Channels

    • Gutters

    • Drains

    • Sewers

   
   
  • Exposure minimization (devices used to limit exposure of stormwater to contaminants )

    • Dikes

    • Curbing

    • Catch basins

    • Sumps

  • Mitigative practices (techniques to clean up or recover released substances)

    • Sweeping

    • Shoveling

    • Vacuuming

    • Using sorbents and gels

  • Other preventive practices

    • Dust control

    • Routine monitoring of operations

    • Warning signs and labels
