Storage Area Maintenance
The principle of storage area maintenance is to make sure that the material is covered, in appropriate containments, and protected from stormwater. The materials of concern include raw materials, products, by-products, and construction materials or supplies. The recommended material storage methods include:
-
Storing material on a paved surface with a roof or covering so there will be no direct rainfall contacts. To prevent the run-on stormwater, appropriate dikes, berms, or retaining walls should be used.
-
Storing material on a specially constructed paved area with a drainage system when a roof is not feasible. To minimize water pooling, the storage area must be paved with a 1.5% slope. To prevent runoff and run-on of stormwater, you should construct berms or curbing must be constructed along the perimeter. Installing a no drain for the storage area, testing and pumping the accumulated stormwater to the sanitary sewer, or maintaining an onsite or offsite treatment facility, is a preferred alternative for storage area stormwater management.
