On November 29, 2002 EPA announced the availability of its draft Strategy for National Clean Water Industrial Regulations. The draft Strategy describes a process to identify existing effluent guidelines that EPA should consider revising, and to identify any industrial categories for which the Agency should consider developing new effluent guidelines. EPA proposes to use this process to develop future Effluent Guidelines Program Plans, which EPA is required to publish under section 304(m) of the Clean Water Act every two years. EPA is welcoming comments on the draft Strategy and recommendations on industrial categories to be considered. Airports may be impacted by such a process if EPA considers effluent guidelines for stormwater and/or de-icing operations, because of that ACI-NA and AAAE will be working together to submit comments on behalf of member airports. Should you want to have your comments included or reflected in ACI-NA/AAAE comments, contact AAAE’s Director of Environmental Affairs, Claudio H. Ternieden at (703) 824-0500, Ext. 198 or by e-mail at claudio.ternieden@airportnet.org.
