Fact Sheet: Waste Reduction for the Aerospace Industry, California Department of Health Services, April 1990 (FCAD-1).*

    • This fact sheet highlights strategies and areas to reduce or eliminate the use of hazardous materials and the generation, discharge, and disposal of hazardous wastes in the aerospace industry.

Fact Sheets: Waste Reduction Checklists, Minnesota Office of Waste Management and Michigan Office of Waste Reduction Services (FM10-2-9).*

    • These fact sheets are waste reduction checklists that provide general tips for reducing waste at home and in the office.

1994 Project Summary: Pollution Prevention Opportunity Assessment. U.S. Coast Guard Aviation Training Center, Mobile, Alabama. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Research and Development. Sept. 1994. EPA/600/SR-94/156.*

    • This document summarizes the results of a pollution prevention assessment at the U.S. Coast Guard Aviation Training Center in Mobile, AL. The assessment identified waste reduction opportunities in five major areas: flight simulation, aircraft maintenance, aircraft fueling, aircraft washing, and general operations. This report summarizes additional opportunities in waste reduction.

NASA Langley Research Center and the Tidewater Interagency Pollution Prevention Program. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Research and Development. Sept. 1994. EPA/600//R-94/171.*

    • This report provides an in-depth description of the Tidewater Interagency Pollution Prevention Program (TIPPP) at NASA's Langley Research Center (LaRC). The program plan contains an environmental baseline and opportunities for pollution prevention, and establishes a framework to plan, implement, and monitor specific pollution prevention projects. In addition to featuring NASA LaRC's program, this report describes the pollution prevention and recycling accomplishments of other TIPPP participants.

1995 Pollution Prevention Opportunity Assessment, United States Naval Base, Norfolk Naval Air Station. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, National Risk Management Research Laboratory. Sept. 1995. EPA/600/SR-95/135. *

    • This report summarizes work conducted at the U.S. Navy's Naval Base Norfolk, Naval Air Station (NAS) located at Sewells Point in Norfolk, Virginia under U.S. EPA Waste Reduction Evaluations at Federal Sites Program. The Pollution Prevention Opportunity Assessment identified areas for waste reduction during operation and maintenance of the NAS cooling towers. The report also suggests new ideas for future improvements and waste reduction

Environmental Research Brief: Pollution Prevention Assessment for a Manufacturer of Aircraft Landing Gear. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, National Risk Management Research Laboratory. Aug. 1995. EPA/600-S-95/032.*

    • This brief presents the results of a pollution prevention assessment a manufacturer of aircraft landing gear. The report summarizes the manufacturing process, waste streams generated, existing waste management practices, and pollution prevention opportunities including reducing painting related wastes, controlling evaporation losses of chemicals, and collecting waste oil from metal working machines.

Project Summary: Parts Washing Alternatives Study, United States Coast Guard. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Risk Reduction Engineering Laboratory. Feb. 1995. EPA-600-SR-95/006.*

    • This document is a summary of a study conducted to provide guidance to U.S. Coast Guard industrial managers in choosing cost effective parts cleaning chemicals that have minimum environmental and safety impacts. With three facilities participating, four parts cleaners were chosen for the alternatives study.

EPA's 33/50 Program Company Profile: Lockheed Martin. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics. August, 1995. EPA-745-K-95-005.**

    • This profile provides highlights of three particular 33/50 Program chemicals reduction projects at Lockheed Martin: (1) eliminating hazardous chemical usage and solvent emission from cleaning/degreasing operations by substituting aqueous cleaning; (2) process changes in the cleaning and coating of printed circuit boards; and (3) eliminating hazardous chemicals and paint solvent emissions by using plastic media blasting.
